The Recovery Community

The recovery community is an essential support tool for most all people in early recovery. While 12-Step groups in some communities may not welcome people who are using medication as part of their substance use disorder treatment, others have come to acknowledge medication as essential to recovery for many.

Education and training about buprenorphine and other forms of medication-assisted treatment can help secure buy-in from recovery support groups that do not accept members who use medication.

  • The National Alliance of Medication-Assisted (NAMA) Recovery has developed Medication-Assisted Recovery Services (MARSto help promote use of medication-assisted treatment and reduce the stigma associated with it.  MARs groups are peer-led self-help groups that have incorporated the importance of medication into their meetings and guiding principles for sustaining recovery and wellness.
